As you may guess, we are extremely excited to present you an interview with the metalcore giants The Devil Wears Prada (^_^). Formed in 2005, they are a metalcore band from Ohio, USA and for years have been in the center of the formation of the genre in the way we know it today. They have toured with Killswitch Engage (couple of albums produced by Adam Dutkiewicz as well), All That Remains, As I lay Dying and others. 2 EPs, 1 live album and 6 albums, the latest of which, Transit Blues was released last year (October 2016). Actually they are on their way of playing on the 26th of June (2 days from now) for the first time in Bulgaria, Sofia, Mixtape 5 Club and the concert is organized by the really awesome Wrong Fest (click here for the event in Facebook).

DM : You’ll have your first show in Bulgaria in a couple of days, do you have any expectations for the country?

TDWP : Visiting anywhere we haven’t been is exciting, although that’s not specifically creating expectations

DM : How has the tour been going so far?

TDWP : Great! We love playing overseas and this tour has offered a lot of great opportunities.

DM : You finished Transit Blues at the end of May last year, does the record still resonate with you as it did back then?

TDWP : It changes a little bit with time. Keeping inspired is important, so I’m constantly looking back with ambitions to make something better next time around.

DM : Transit Blues was the first record you wrote together. Would you take the same songwriting approach with your next release?

TDWP : First full length with wrote with Kyle (the band changed a guitarist, he is actually their former guitar tech guy) in the band. We’ve used the same means of songwriting for years and years now, although it’s a bit more democratic these days.

DM : In this style of writing, how does one release a consistent album, style-wise?

TDWP : We have our sound and our style: achieving this comes naturally for us. Everyone brings a certain kind of substance that glues together and makes the band what it is.

DM : You’ve recently released a video for the song Worldwide. Would you like to explain the meaning behind the song and the video?

TDWP : The song is about traveling and the restlessness one can feel when stuck around the same place too much. The video is a scientist trying to reassemble a loved one. I know the song’s meaning and video are dissimilar, but the futuristic component is something I wanted to implement.

DM : Speaking of videos, your music videos have always been quite odd (in a good sense, of course). Do you take any part in the ideas and how do they fit in the grand concept?

TDWP : Yep, I work with each director individually to develop the treatment, look, and style.

DM : You are considered pioneers of the metalcore genre. What do you think of the oversaturation and do you consider copy-cat bands as something bad?

TDWP : Yeah it feels exhausting and irritating to hear so many bands do the same thing. Finding creativity and originality shouldn’t be so difficult across a very wide genre. Complaining doesn’t help, though, so I guess we just sort of keep our heads down and go about our business and doing the best by our own standards.

DM : Do you think the genre can evolve anymore at this point?

TDWP : Yeah, certainly. It’s easy to be bitter, but there’s still a lot of great music coming out across the board, whether it’s metal or not.
